Keep your eyes closed for at least 3-4 hours except to eat, use the restroom or get to and from your car. sleep on your stomach, you will need to wear the shields for 4 weeks. The shields should rest against the bones of the brow and cheek and not the eyelids. Do not wear eye make-up (mascara, eyeliner) for 5 days.
In addition to wearing your eye shield at night, you will also want to avoid sleeping on the side that has been operated on. By reducing irritation, you can decrease your risk of infection and speed your recovery process. This is why your doctor tells you not to sleep on your side after cataract surgery.
It follows your eye at the same speed and is therefore always perfectly centered. So, no need to worry about keeping your eye open or moving your eye during the procedure. If you head or body moves, from a cough or sneeze, then the laser moves with you or stops altogether.
Wear the plastic shield(s) or goggles every night for the next 5 nights. This prevents you from rubbing your eye(s) while sleeping. For the first two weeks following surgery, wear sunglasses when you are outdoors, even when it is cloudy.
We recommend wearing shields while sleeping for one week. Patients should also use caution when they dab their eyes. Use a clean tissue and avoid putting any pressure on the eye.
Sleeping is a crucial time that allows your eyes to recharge and heal. After a procedure like LASIK, you may need more sleep than you normally do. This is common. If you feel tired, there's nothing wrong with a few extra hours the first week after LASIK.
Although flaps are clinically secured in position within a few weeks of LASIK, the full duration of risk is unknown but, to the best of our knowledge, traumatic flap dislocation has been described up to 14y after refractive surgery using mechanical microkeratome[8].

Can you open your eyes immediately after LASIK?
The best thing you can do is keep your eyes closed for at least 3 hours after LASIK. It's okay if you don't fall asleep. The act of closing your eyes and resting them can make a big difference during the recovery process.
Since your eyes are still healing, they will be especially sensitive in the first 24 hours after the LASIK procedure. Because of this, it's recommended to wait at least 24 hours before watching TV.

Wearing them while asleep puts them at great risk for serious damage. You could roll over on them or tear them up in your sleep.
Does LASIK Affect Night Vision? Vision disturbances including decreased night vision can occur immediately after a LASIK procedure, according to Mayo Clinic. However, while you may experience difficulty with night vision right after your procedure, it typically will not last beyond a few weeks.
We recommend getting pre-purchasing entertainment that doesn't involve the heavy use of screens. Popular options include podcasts, audiobooks, and music. If you want to go analog, you could also just read out loud to the person who just had LASIK.

Sneezing, blinking, coughing or any other involuntary movement will not affect the outcome of the LASIK procedure.
Can you touch your eyelid after LASIK?
Rubbing or touching the eyes at this time could cause the flap to become dislodged, interrupting the healing process. So how long should you avoid rubbing your eyes after LASIK? As a general rule, you should completely avoid rubbing the eyes for the first two weeks post-op.
On the day of LASIK, don't wear makeup, perfumes, or lotions. On the day of your procedure, don't load up on heavy makeup, perfumes, or lotions. You should take a shower and make sure your face is clean of any contaminants the morning of LASIK. Make sure to skip any perfumes as well.
You can cry after LASIK. In fact, natural tears can help lubricate your eyes, which is an important aspect of the healing process. With this in mind, it's important not to touch your eyes when you wipe your tears away. This could shift your corneal flap and put you at risk of infection.
What happens if I blink during the surgery? This can't happen. Your surgeon will place a simple eye lid holder so that you cannot blink.
In fact, your doctor may ask you to wear a blindfold or eye patch during your sleep to prevent you from accidentally rubbing it. Your eyes may also be sensitive to light during this period, so you may find it comfortable to wear dark-tint sunglasses during this period.
While you will see better the day after surgery, your vision may be a bit blurry or hazy immediately afterward. These temporary vision difficulties usually clear up after the first few weeks. However, it can take about 2 – 3 months before your vision fully stabilizes and your eyes completely heal.
Most patients see clearly within 24 hours after vision correction surgery, but others take two to five days to recover. Some patients may experience some blurred vision and fluctuations in their vision for several weeks after LASIK.
It is best to go home, close both eyes and rest for the remainder of the day following the LASIK procedure. Keeping your eyes closed will minimize the discomfort and speed your visual recovery. Be careful not to squeeze your eyelids tightly closed because this could cause the flap to become dislodged.
